Utah is home to thousands of miles of incredible off-highway vehicle (OHV) trails, from the red rock landscapes surrounding Hurricane and Sand Hollow to the mountain trails found throughout the state. Before your adventure begins, make sure you understand Utah's OHV permit and education requirements.

Who Needs a Utah OHV Permit?

Any off-highway vehicle operated on public lands in Utah must display a valid Utah OHV registration or a Utah Non-Resident OHV Permit if the vehicle is registered outside of Utah.

This includes:

• Side-by-Sides (UTVs)
• ATVs
• Dirt Bikes
• Four-Wheelers
• Other off-highway vehicles

If you're visiting Utah from another state, you will generally need a Utah Non-Resident OHV Permit unless your state has a reciprocity agreement with Utah.

Utah also requires many riders to complete an approved OHV education course before operating an off-highway vehicle on public land.

The online course teaches riders about:
