Ready to tackle some of the most stunning and challenging backcountry terrain Southern Utah has to offer? The 5-day Cloverleaf Tour with FATCO Offroad puts you behind the wheel for a cross-country adventure that'll take you through desert washes, mountain passes, and remote trail systems most people never see. We're talking about real off-road country around Mt. Carmel, Escalante, Tropic, Salina, and Marysvale - places where your GPS might lose signal but the views will blow your mind. This isn't your weekend trail ride; it's five full days of serious wheeling with professional guide support and the peace of mind that comes with having experienced hands managing every detail of your route.
This tour is all about covering serious ground while experiencing Southern Utah's most remote backcountry. You'll bring your own UTV - we handle everything else. Each day starts at 9 AM sharp, but don't think you can just roll up and go. We kick off every tour with a mandatory safety meeting at 11 AM because out here, preparation saves lives and prevents expensive mistakes. Our lead guide knows these routes like the back of their hand, having run them in every season and condition you can imagine. Behind the group, our sweep support UTV makes sure nobody gets left behind, and our chase truck follows with recovery gear, tools, and emergency supplies. Trust me, when you're 40 miles from the nearest paved road and something goes sideways, you'll be glad we came prepared. The terrain changes dramatically as we move between locations - one day you might be navigating rocky desert washes near Mt. Carmel, the next you could be climbing through aspen groves and alpine meadows around Marysvale. Weather and trail conditions determine our exact route, which keeps things interesting even for folks who've run parts of this country before.
Southern Utah's backcountry doesn't mess around, and neither should you. The routes we run vary from sandy washes that'll test your momentum management to rocky climbs where line choice makes all the difference. Around Escalante, expect deep sand and slickrock sections that demand smooth throttle control and proper tire pressure. The mountain passes near Salina and Marysvale bring elevation changes, loose shale, and seasonal water crossings that can turn a straightforward trail into a technical challenge overnight. Your UTV needs to be trail-ready - we're not talking about groomed recreational trails here. Plan on encounters with embedded rocks, washouts from flash floods, and stretches where the "trail" is really just wherever previous riders found traction. Seasonal conditions play a huge role in route selection. Spring snowmelt can make high-elevation passes impassable while opening up desert routes that bake in summer heat. Fall offers some of the best conditions overall, but weather can change fast in the mountains. Winter tours stick to lower elevations but offer incredible solitude and crystal-clear desert air. Your guide monitors conditions constantly and adjusts routes accordingly, which is why every Cloverleaf Tour feels different even when covering similar territory.
The backcountry around Southern Utah hosts an amazing variety of desert-adapted wildlife that most people never get close enough to observe. Mule deer are probably the most common large mammals you'll spot, especially around dawn and dusk when they move between feeding and bedding areas. These deer have adapted perfectly to the harsh desert environment, developing the ability to get most of their water from vegetation and showing remarkable agility on rocky terrain. Spring and fall offer the best viewing opportunities since deer are more active during cooler temperatures. Watch for them in brushy draws and along seasonal water sources. Desert bighorn sheep represent the ultimate in specialized desert adaptation, though sightings require patience and luck. These magnificent animals can scale seemingly impossible cliff faces and survive on minimal water for extended periods. Rams can weigh up to 300 pounds despite thriving in this harsh environment, and their massive curved horns make them unmistakable. Ewes and lambs tend to stay in smaller, more mobile groups. The best chances for sheep encounters come in areas with steep terrain and reliable water sources, particularly during hot weather when they're forced to drink more frequently.
At $300 per day per UTV, this tour delivers serious value for a multi-day guided backcountry experience. You're getting professional navigation, safety support, and logistical coordination that would cost you way more to arrange independently - assuming you could even access some of these remote areas on your own. We need a minimum of 8 UTVs to make a tour happen, but the sweet spot is usually 12-15 machines where you get that group energy without feeling like a convoy. Maximum capacity runs up to 20 UTVs for shared tours, though private groups can work with us on custom arrangements. Keep in mind that lodging isn't included in the tour price, but we can help coordinate accommodations that work with our departure schedule and your budget. Some folks prefer camping to stay closer to the action, while others want hotel rooms and hot showers after a day of serious wheeling. Either way, we'll get you sorted with options that make sense for your group. Book early, especially for peak season dates in spring and fall when weather conditions are ideal and demand runs high.
